Public Outreach - Bringing the night sky closer to the public.

Bringing astronomy to a wider public audience has always been a central activity for Birmingham Astronomical Society. We usually hold 2 star-parties each year at Lickey Hills Visitor Centre as part of British National Science Week and World Space Week. The public is encouraged to come along to these events and see the night sky as they may never have seen it before.

During the International Year of Astronomy in 2009 we ran an event every month and had contact with more than 2,000 people during the year. We continue our outreach activities and during 2010 have run events at Soho House, Lickey Hills, King Edwards High School and Cannon Hill Park.

We took part in the International Sidewalk Astronomy Night in Centenary Square in the city centre. Hundreds of members of the public came along to view Venus, Saturn and the Moon.
